Underwriting Seminar 2024
Our Underwriting Seminar will be taking place on the 8th and 9th of August 2024 and will be held at Orsett Hall.
The 2-day seminar benefits those with 2 to 5 years’ experience in reinsurance and those looking for a greater understanding of underwriting techniques. The Underwriting Seminar's main priority is an understanding of key factors and methods to review and price reinsurance.
The seminar covers an introduction to burning cost rating using the chain ladder method with consideration given to IBNR, inflation and portfolio changes. Also covered are exposure rating techniques, Pareto distribution and an introduction to Vendor models.
Furthermore, the course is an invaluable opportunity to meet and interact with other reinsurance professionals from a wide variety of business areas. It gives members the unique opportunity to learn from practicing underwriters who use the skills taught during the course on a day to day basis and places a particular emphasis on combining theory with practice.

After the success of last year’s quiz, the Under 35s are excited to announce our first Quiz Night of 2024. The event will be held at Steam Wine Bar on Thursday 18th April. This is a good chance to come and test your brain against your fellow peers to see who are the most knowledgeable individuals in London reinsurance market! Balloon Debate 2024 - SOLD OUT
The Under 35s Committee are pleased to release details, and the ability to register your interest, for our Annual Balloon Debate for 2024. An extremely longstanding and popular event in our calendar will once again be taking place in 2024 on the 22nd of February.
Our event this year will be hosted at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall located at 30 Threadneedle Street in the City of London. The event is a great opportunity to hear from industry leaders discussing relevant topics and issues within our industry. The topic of discussion this year will be around Cyber Insurance and Reinsurance.

Back to Basics Lecture Series 1 - SOLD OUT
The first in our series of three lectures will be hosted by Peter Townsend (Ensign Consultancy), who has worked in the Marine market in London for over 45 years. Peter will be giving an introduction into Marine Treaty Reinsurance, covering the core coverages and underwriting considerations, a bit of history, along with key themes and hot topics from 1/1, which will then be followed by Q&A.

Winter Party 2023
The Under 35s Committee are excited to announce our Winter Party on Wednesday 29th November 2023 being held at The Steel Yard.
Following the incredible demand for the 2022 Winter Party, The Steel Yard will be our largest venue yet (including the cloakroom!). The night will be a great chance to meet other U35s members, celebrate the festive season and enjoy the DJ set in the club room!
Doors will open at 6pm.
Tickets will cost £12.50 (plus a booking fee), which can be purchased through the Eventbrite link below. Each ticket sold includes a charitable donation to The Charlie Watkins Foundation, the U35s’ chosen charity for 2023/24.

The Under 35s are excited to announce our Quiz Night for 2023. The event will be held at Steam Wine Bar on the 5th of October 2023.

Golf Day 2023
The Under 35s are excited to announce the 4th Annual U35 Golf Day taking place again at Chigwell GC on July 6th.
The Under 35s are pleased to announce the return of U35 Golf Day in 2022 which is set to be our biggest golf day to date. Based on feedback from previous years, the day will start with lunch at Chigwell GC and 18 holes of golf in the afternoon.
We are also looking forward to welcome back beginner golfers with 18 places available for professional tuition courtesy of Chigwell's Head Pro and his team. So if you're a single handicapper, finding your way in the game, or have never picked up a golf club, come and join in the fun Next July.
Educational Trip 2022
The U35s Reinsurance Group is delighted to welcome the Educational Trip back to the events calendar for 2022.
This two week-trip is planned to take place between 27th August - 10th September, and will visit five destinations, four in the USA, and then Bermuda. Each has their own relevance, characteristics and points of interest to the London Market.

The Under 35s will be hosting our 4th Annual Golf Day at Chigwell Golf Club.
Senior Mentorship Scheme
The Under 35s Committee are pleased to announce, following the success of last year's Mentor Scheme, that we will be running our first Senior Mentor Programme.
This is aimed at those of you with over 5 years of experience in Reinsurance, who are looking to progress to the next stage of your careers and seeking advice on how best to achieve your goals. We have four market leading mentors who are kindly offering their time to support your development.
This is a structured programme, as such training and guidance packs will be provided to assist progress and further support will be provided throughout by the Training and Education team.
The programme will include:
U35s Committee to match the Mintor and Mentee according to applications and then facilitate an introductory coffee
Detailed training and guidance pack
A minimum of 4 meetings with your mentor (additional meetings at the discretion of the mentee and mentor)
Networking Event in the Autumn with all Mentors and Mentees
There are only 4 spaces available for the 2022/23 programme and the deadline for applications is Friday 8th July.
To apply for one of the spaces, please fill out the form below to assist in the pairing process. Selection will be based on an alignment of your requirements with mentors. Last year this scheme was oversubscribed and unfortunately, there is no guarantee of a place.

50th Anniversary Ball
On the 7th of July 2022, we celebrated our 50th Anniversary at the Honourable Artillery Company in London. We had nearly 900 attendees and it was our biggest event ever. We wish to thank everyone for attending and our sponsorship partners for making the event as great as it could be.
We are working through the many pictures that were taken on the night by MJH Film and will post these on our website and socials when ready.

T20 Blast Cricket - Surrey vs. Sussex
The Under 35s are excited to confirm that the T20 Cricket at the Kia Oval will be returning to the U35's calendar this year!
After last year's sold-out event was unfortunately canceled at the last minute due to continued covid restrictions we are delighted to inform you all that the T20 cricket is back in the diary for 2022.
This game this year is the South Group Clash between Surrey and Sussex which promises to be a thriller!

Bike Ride - London to Windsor
The u35s are proud to announce our second charity cycling event from London to Windsor on the 12th of May.
Following the positive feedback received during our bike ride from London to Brighton, where the cyclists followed a 90km route, this year's event will take us from trinity square to the Queen's palace in Windsor. Setting off at 10:00 from Trinity Square Gardens (EC3N 4DH), we will follow the Thames all the way to Windsor; in total, the route is around 55km with 160m elevation gain, it's estimated will take approximately 2.5 hours. We have a scheduled stop around 30km to load up on caffeine, carbs, and sugar. Given the length of the route, we suggest using a bike suitable for a long-distance bike ride. If you don't have a bike but still wish to participate, the OnYourBike shop at London Bridge will rent out bikes at affordable prices. You can view their website here: https://www.onyourbike.com/
Like last year, we make this day as accessible as possible for everyone; the route is on pavement only, not timed, and a support vehicle is available in case of any bike failures. Please note that you will need to find your own way back from Windsor.

Lecture Series 2: Work/Life Balance and Success
The U35s Lecture Series is back with an exciting lineup of speakers to discuss whether it is possible to maintain a healthy work/life balance and still be successful in your career.
For our second lecture in this series we're talking to Clare Himmer (CEO Berkley Re), James Few (CEO Tiger Risk), and Nicola Stacey (CUO Chaucer Group), to discuss how they have maintained a healthy work/life balance, whilst also upholding a successful career in the market. They will be sharing any challenges or compromises they may have faced and how they view the current and future working environment for future leaders.
The lecture will begin with opening statements from each of the panelists and then a series of questions to each of the speakers. We will also be running a Q&A session with the speakers for questions from the audience. There will also be time to network at the end of the session.
Please arrive 10 minutes early, in order to have enough time to get up to the Liberty office. Numbers for the event will be capped, so sign up now to avoid disappointment.
Lecture Series 1: Zego - Building Winning Formulas
To kick off our lecture series season, we'll be hearing from Zego whose credentials speak for themselves, they were included in the Telegraph's Best of British Business Series and won the Tech Company of the Year award 2020.
Zego was founded in 2016 and offers insurance products in the new mobility space that are simple, flexible and usage based. Through the use of driver behavioural data, they are able to price their insurance policies far more accurately and fairly than competitors.
